Specialisation SOCIOCULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY: EXPRESSIVE CULTURES, IDENTITY AND POLITICS, INDIGENOUS RITUALS AND FESTIVALS, AND GENDER AND PERFORMANCE.

Personal Statement

My research interests encompass sociocultural anthropology, focusing on Yoruba expressive cultures, identity and politics, indigenous rituals and festivals, and gender and performance. My research examines the intersections of performance, politics, and identity, investigating how political narratives are constructed, performed, experienced, and disseminated through various forms of Yoruba verbal arts, such as praise poetry, music, songs, Ifa verses, rituals, and festivals, and how these genres are employed to negotiate and assert political power and authority among the Yoruba. I am keen to develop effective strategies for political stability to ensure sustainable communities in the Yoruba region and Nigeria as a whole. I have participated in several workshops on global teaching best practices in Nigeria and the United Kingdom and collaborated with publishing companies in writing workshops on Yoruba courses in Nigeria. I have also undergone leadership and development trainings at Queen's University Belfast, United Kingdom, and obtained certification in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice awarded by the Chartered Management Institute, United Kingdom, in 2023. I hold membership in the following professional associations and networks: the Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) of Great Britain and Ireland, the Association of Social Anthropologists of the UK (ASA), the British Academy Early Career Researcher Network, and the Yoruba Studies Association of Nigeria (YSAN). I have published articles in reputable journals and attended numerous conferences, both national and international.
